Open Source Mac - Free, Open-Source software for OS X

BBC - Radio 4 - Frontiers 17/05/2006

However much we might try to resist its incessant march, time is central to almost everything we do, from knowing when to sleep or use the toilet, to timing our movements so that a kiss doesn't become a head butt.

Although biologists haven't been able to agree how they work, it seems clear that the body has a number of internal timing systems to help us judge the passage of time.

Reflection.js
Reflection.js 1.5 allows you to add reflections to images on your webpages. It uses unobtrusive javascript to keep your code clean. It works in all the major browsers - Internet Explorer 5.5 , Mozilla Firefox 1.5 , Opera 9 and Safari. On older browsers, it'll degrade and your visitors won't notice a thing. Best of all, it's under 5KB.

The Design of Software - VC6 to VC 2005
I've been assigned to a project written in VC6, and I've been told by the lead programmer that they don't want to upgrade to the latest version of Visual Studio because:a) they get too many errors when they compile in VS2005, because it's too "picky"b) there's no benefits to going to VS2005Now, I'm not an expert in this field, but my gut tells me that VS2005 is probably giving all those errors for a reason, and that sticking with VC6 is probably restrictive in the long term because we're not getting any benefits of newer technology.Oh, just to be clear, we're ot converting to .NET, we're just recompiling an MFC app. And this code will be in use for the next 3-5 years at least, supporting XP, Vista and anything else that comes along.Any thoughts or pointers to places I can find more information on this would be much appreciated. I'm just looking for clarification, without having to go back to the developers and saying "But why?" over and over again like a small child. And I'll put on my flame-retardant suit, 'cause i know how much you guys like people like me. :) But hey, at least I'm TRYING to be better informed...

AP Wire | 04/26/2006 | Last ninja: Be able to kill your s...
Hatsumi is the only living student of the last "fighting ninja," Toshitsugu Takamatsu, the so-called 33rd Grand Master who was a bodyguard to officials in Japanese-occupied Manchuria before World War II and fought - and won - 12 fights to the death. Legend says that during one battle, Takamatsu snatched an eyeball from a would-be Chinese bandit.

RegexPlor 0.6 - MacUpdate
RegexPlor is a tool for interactively exploring regular expressions. It provides a graphic frontend for experimenting with such regular expressions in a intuitive way. You can edit an input text as well as a regular expression as well as colors for matched text, etc. and study various effects at every keystroke. This is a much more convenient way of hunting down the one expression you're after, without typing any code at all in the usual trial-and-error method.

WhatIsDaversy - Daversy - Trac

Daversy is an open source system for managing structural changes to relational databases (an SCM for the RDBMS).

Most of the current source control tools handle text files and anything that can be represented as text files - source code is the most commonly managed content, and documentation and other text-based data are commonly stored as well. But (contrary to common Unix wisdom) not everything is a text file. An important part of many of today's software products, the relational database, gets no support in those tools and many DBA's struggle to create a personal set of scripts that help them to manage the ever-changing structure of the database. There are a few tools out there that tackle this issue, but they are all commercial, and target a specific database platform. We don't believe that needs to be the case. Subversion can be used equally well with Java, C and Python and there is no reason a database versioning tool couldn't be used the same way across platforms and database vendors. For this to be true, special customizations (drivers) will be needed for each of the databases and source control tools in use, but in a sufficiently popular open-source tool, that should pose no problem.

Just to make one point clear, Daversy is meant to be an add-on to the current source control tools. Whatever you're using today to manage your source code, Daversy should be able to play along nicely with it. We don't want you to change the way you work - only help you in an area that needs some automation.
